My Research — Mijn onderzoek

In January 2004 the research project (NWO-VIDI grant for innovative research) The Quest for the System in the Transcendental Philosophy of Immanuel Kant, subsidised by the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO), took its start.

This research focuses on the issue of the 'system of reason' (System der Vernunft) in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant since 1781. In current research, however, there has been hardly any clarity established concerning the aims, purpose and principles of this system. The aim of this research program is to investigate this 'System of Reason', which Kant intended to publish but never did. It achieves its purpose primarily by an analysis of the literal heritage, published posthumously as the so-called Opus postumum. Here Kant presents important and yet not adequately examined insights into his intended system of reason. The clarification of this, in current research still enigmatic system of reason, is one of the most important desiderata for future philosophical research in the study on Kant. Not at least, because German idealism can be interpreted as the attempt to provide this system. And this attempt has influenced negatively our understanding of Kant’s own considerations concerning his system of reason and its intentions.

Two PhD-students are added to this project: Karianne Marx MA phil., and Hein van den Berg MA phil.

This research on Kant is part of a more comprehensive plan to describe the idea of the system in German Idealism in general.

Other research concerns the early history of Kantianism in Holland (19th century), German scholasticism (Deutsche Schulphilosophie), Neoplatonism, Plato and Aristoteles.

Met ingang van januari 2004 is het door NWO gesubsidieerde VIDI-project (Vernieuwingsimpuls) over het systeem in de transcendentale filosofie van Immanuel Kant van start gegaan. Een onderzoek naar het 'systeem van de rede' in de filosofie van Kant. Over bedoeling, doelstelling en principes van dit systeem dat Kant in geen van zijn publicaties nader heeft uitgewerkt, bestaat weinig duidelijkheid. Vooral een analyse van zijn wijsgerige nalatenschap die posthum is gepubliceerd onder de titel 'Opus postumum', waarin belangrijke aanwijzingen voor de uiteindelijke voltooiing van dit systeem worden gegeven, moet over Kants systeemidee meer duidelijkheid geven. De verheldering van Kants systeemidee is een van de belangrijkste desiderata voor het Kant-onderzoek.
Aan dit project zijn tevens twee promovendi toegevoegd, drs. Karianne Marx en drs. Hein van den Berg.

Dit onderzoek maakt deel uit van een omvattender onderzoeksplan, de idee van het wijsgerig systeem voor de gehele klassieke Duitse filosofie te beschrijven.

Ander onderzoek gaat over de receptie van de filosofie van Kant in Nederland (19de eeuw), de philosophie van de philosophiegeschiedenis sinds 1700, over de Deutsche Schulphilosophie, het Neoplatonisme, Plato en Aristoteles.
